We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. ("Google"), for usage statistics to be able to improve the contents of our site. An example for this would be, that we check which pages are frequented more often than others to understand the fields of interest of our visitors.
Google Analytics uses "cookies", which are text files placed on your computer to help the website analyze how visitors use the site. We hold the view that IP addresses are without references to persons according to the Federal Data Protection Act. We have enabled the IP anonymization for our website so that Google shortens the IP addresses automatically transmitted with the usage information within the European Union or in another country of the European Economic Area before the data are forwarded and saved in the USA. Only in exceptional cases IP addresses are sent to a Google server in the USA and shortened there. Google is authorized by freiheit.com to use this information in order to evaluate the user activity of the website, compiling reports on website activity for and providing other services relating to website activity and Internet usage. The procedure of IP anonymization described here has been agreed between Google Inc. and the Hamburg Officer for Data Protection and Information Freedom and is recognized as being in compliance with data protection regulations (cf. the relevant press release of the HmbBfDI).
The IP address transmitted by your browser within the scope of Google Analytics will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. You can prevent cookies from being stored on your hard drive by making the relevant setting in your browser.
